Terminology

• Frontend: the XDG Desktop Portal service itself. This is what provides the APIs that apps interact with.

• Backend: desktop-specific implementation of portal interfaces. This is what provides the user interfaces that users interact with.

• Host system: the privileged, unsandboxed part of the system stack.

• URI: A Uniform Resource Identifier as described at RFC 3986.
